Television industry contexts

  1) What does the article suggest regarding the traditional audience for foreign-language subtitled media? i f you'd mentioned to a colleague that you'd spent Saturday night glued to a subtitled European drama, you'd have been quietly declared pretentious, dull and, possibly, a little odd. 2) What does Walter Iuzzolino suggest is the key appeal of his 'Walter Presents' shows? fundamental part of their appeal. "We all love getting that insight into a different culture," says Deeks. "The unfamiliar setting gives a freshness to genre pieces." 3) The article makes an interesting claim for the popularity of subtitles in the multi-screen age. What does it suggest? due to globalisation we are more connected to other countries and their media is more accessible therefore becoming mainstream  4) What are the other audiences pleasures of foreign TV drama suggested by the article? escapism - go to different places in the world and you can immerse yourself ...

TV: Postmodernism and Deutschland 83

  1) What were the classic media representations of the Cold War? present the East and  West as binary opposites through codes and  conventions. The communist East is presented grey and  stark, no billboards, culture or entertainment and strict  limitations of citizens’ movements and availability of certain  foods (e.g. coffee and bananas). The capitalist West, in  contrast, is a world of department stores, restaurants and  cars, pop-culture and entertainment and free movement.  These texts traditionally offer a pro-West ‘them versus  us/ good versus evil’ ideological viewpoint through their  narratives and how characters are represented. 2) Why does Deutschland 83 provide a particularly good example for postmodern analysis?  All postmodern texts create a relationship with the past  and the first episode of Deutschland 83, ‘Quantum Jump’, does this with intertitles that frame its historical context. 3) Pick out some of the...

Conclave review

To be honest i thought that conclave (2024) was quite boring , it had an interesting idea of a plot but took to long to carry out and many subplots seemed to distract from the main plot which dragged out , However some of the camerawork and cinematography was outstanding and some shots of interior of buildings were incredible and could easily tell this was a high budget film . There was a lot of enigma codes throughout the film which kept some of the audience on edge and carry on watching but overall i didnt think the plot of the film was for me but can still appreciate the big budget large cast and great camerawork

Clueless Film Review

The Film Clueless (1995) was a classic Teen High school coming of age film about love fashion and friendship , i thought the film was quite funny at times but also portrayed themes of mainstream beauty standards and not being yourself in order too look good and have a high status during school which seemed to desirable  during this film. I found the ending quite strange as cher fancied josh despite living together and disliking him for the whole film overall i thought it was an Ok film with some parts being funny and some parts feeling slightly awkward

Deutschland 83: case study blog tasks

  1) Find one positive aspect and one criticism of Deutschland 83 in the reviews. negative: the title was the least ambiguous ever  posotive : the actinng " Martin is suberbly played by jonas Nay"   2) Why does the second Guardian article suggest the Germans didn't like the show?  make the viewer empathise with a Stasi agent and shows the negative side of german history  3) Find three 'below the line' comments from either of the Guardian articles. What did the audience think of Deutschland 83? Do you agree with the comments? “the flop of the year”, as Bild called it - Disagree as it is still a intiguing part of History and showing from a perspective of someone who we dont usually see from and it also got millions of views  Germany has found a way of making people abroad think it is cool and sexy – yet Germans don’t like it. I think I see why. - Agree as it shows east Germany to be happy and joyful when in fact it was not a good place to be  In Germany,...

marxism and hegemony

  1) Re-read the  Mail Online review of  Capital . Why does it suggest that  Capital  features a left-wing ideology? the demonization of the bankers and the immigrant characters where more likeable more than the white british characters   2) Choose  three  quotes from the review that are particularly critical of  Capital  and paste them into your blogpost. Do you agree with the criticisms? Why? Capital started with an intriguing idea - i agree as the plot with the mysterious man was very intriguing The residents were bemused, but not scared - i agree as there wasn't much fear from the residents    The hardest worker on the street was an illegal immigrant- agree she worked even though she didnt need to 3) What scenes or characters from  Capital  could be read as promoting left-wing ideology? the bankers were seen as the villain and there was an emphasis on diversity 4) What about the other side of the argument - a...
